Latinos Delivered Again – Now Democrats Must Deliver Citizenship In Congress
Congress must include citizenship for millions in their end-of-year funding bill.
Washington, D.C.—Latinos delivered Democrats’ control of the Senate by coming out in force in Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, and Pennsylvania. Nationwide, Latinos voted for Democrats by a two-to-one margin, and in Pennsylvania, we voted for Democrats by a three-to-one margin. We helped propel Senator Rafael Warnock to a December runoff election in Georgia.
Mi Familia Vota is a majority immigrant-staffed organization; we support pro-immigrant candidates and policies that are extremely popular with millions across the country. Our voters turned out because they want to see action from Congress; they want their elected officials to move on the issues that most impact their lives. In this lame-duck session, Congress has a golden opportunity to act quickly to protect immigrants now.
Irving Zavaleta, National Programs manager, said: “Mi Familia Vota is building Latino political power within a multi-racial and multi-generational coalition of voters to create a more equitable country for all. This election cycle, we fought for tuition equity for all students in Arizona and won. This election cycle, we delivered a majority in the Senate. Now Congress still has the opportunity to deliver desperately needed protections for immigrants. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, and John Fetterman of Pennsylvania ran campaigns that explicitly said more must be done to protect DACA recipients and immigrants in Congress. Everyone would benefit from providing protections to DREAMers; losing this program would hurt our community and the economy. Our country is at its best when we can incorporate the innovation of everyone here to create something new and better. Now is the time for action in Congress; we must act before DACA ends. ”
